Fennec Fox is newest resident

Fenn was running loose in the Jupiter, FL area wearing a leash and a harness when he became tangled in a fence. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was contacted and he was taken to BUSCH wildlife refuge for rehabilitation. After Fenn completed his rehabilitation, he was transported to Shy Wolf Sanctuary. Fenn arrived weighing about 2 lbs, so he may gain a little weight and may reach the max 3.5 lbs of these tiny foxes. Incredibly shy, this super sweet little guy is getting lots of love to help him come out of his shell.

Fennec foxes dwell in the sandy Sahara and elsewhere in North Africa. They are able to deal with the desert heat by sleeping during the day and being active at night. Their unusually large ears help them dissipate heat and their sensitive hearing helps them detect prey. Fennecs eat insects, small mammals and birds and are the smallest species of canids.
