I approached the gate in the tall wooden fence and pulled the rope that brought forth a rich, deep clanging from the rather large bell hanging up above, signaling my arrival. Feeling only slightly more important than a second ago, I patiently waited for someone to welcome me inside Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center, better known as just Shy Wolf Sanctuary.
After a moment I humbly let myself in, quickly noticing that the place was quite busy with tour groups and volunteers walking the paths between securely fenced, spacious habitats. I ducked the commotion and soon enough was greeted warmly by Shy Wolf Executive Director Deanna Deppen, who in turn introduced me to Sanctuary co-founder Nancy Smith. The three of us then set off to meet their many residents.
