Yardley

Wolfdog

Yardley came to Shy Wolf while the world was still dealing with the pandemic.  He was reported to be three years old and not house trained.  Acquired from a breeder by individuals who worked 12 hour shifts, they didn’t really have the time to commit to training a new puppy.   We initially agreed to take Yardley in to a foster home, but that didn’t work out.  While he wasn’t house trained, he had never been outside by himself.  Yardley spent one night at the new foster home and was crying and howling the entire time.  The decision was made to bring him to the sanctuary and attempt to introduce him to one of our packs.  He was initially placed with Ginger and Haku and that worked for a while.  However, tensions were escalating and we decided to move Yardley before a real fight broke out.  At that point we decided to try him with Raven’s pack, a well-established group with two strong leaders.  That stability seems to have been exactly the dynamic needed for Yardley to fit into the sanctuary family.

This special boy was born with a genetic deformity and only three functional legs.  He does have a nub where the fourth leg should be.  Because animals are very adaptable and he’s never known anything different, Yardley has no trouble playing, climbing, or doing any of the normal activities with his pack mates.   He’s quickly become a favorite of the volunteers through his happy-go-lucky attitude and goofy expressions.  Yardley quite often finds himself featured on social media and loves being the focus of everyone’s attention.
