UPDATE 04/19/23 – Victor aka Vector is still looking for his forever home while he hangs out at the sanctuary. He’s one of our main ambassadors and loves to meet new people. Since coming to the sanctuary we have been calling him Victor, a name our founder feels suits him better. You might have had an opportunity to meet him at WolfStock or during one of our animal encounters. To apply to adopt Victor, complete the online application linked in this page.
Victor wants to be an inside dog, loves attention, is crate trained, house trained, rides well in a vehicle and greets other dogs with a wagging tail. While he has been in the house with a small dog, he can be too enthusiastic for most smaller or older dogs loving to play and chase and “paw” at the other dog in his excitement. Victor will have to meet any new friends prior to final placement. Cats are not an option given the way he reacted to our big cat Cimmy. Older children would be best. While Victor is great meeting all children, he is too food motivated and excitable to be loose in the house with small children running and playing or walking with food in their hands.
Victor has had a prior injury in which his leg was pinned after a motor vehicle accident that will limit his activity and need follow up care. The pin may become an issue in the future and need to be removed.
UPDATE 10/25/22 – Vector has been fostered since just before Hurricane Ian. He’s neutered, up to date on vaccines, and ready to meet his new family. This boy really wants to be in a home with someone. Ideally, his person would work from home or be retired. He seems fairly non-reactive to other animals and may do okay with proper introduction. He tries to play to roughly with small dogs pawing at the one he met with his front feet. We would have concerns about him with a small dog, but medium or large may be okay. Cats are an unknown. He’s very people-oriented and wants to be inside but has shown a strong desire to counter surf. He will need patience and understanding for this and other behaviors. Vector does not like for anyone to grab his collar for any reason (even to attach a leash can be a problem) and will mouth the person doing it. Vector has not bitten but we have not allowed this behavior to escalate. He’s good about slip leads and doesn’t mind when you remove the slip leash from his neck. He can be a strong puller when walking (he’s part husky after all) and will need someone experienced with this and equipped to manage this through equipment like no-pull harnesses or leashes or through behavior and consistent training. His current foster has no issues walking him.
09/11/22 – Vector is reported to be approximately 4 years old and has been an indoor and outdoor dog – he will need to be vetted prior to placement – owner died and family is unable to care for the dog – not much information is known about Vector at this time – he’s a “Native American Indian Dog” which is a line that was created from wolfdogs originally based out of Michigan – we are working to get him into an approved foster home and will evaluate his personality and behaviors. Our understanding is that Vector is SAFE and being cared for until the family member that needs to transfer ownership can do so.
It’s imperative that interested adopters complete the adoption application so that we can properly match Vector to the best fit for him, once we’ve been able to evaluate for temperament, other dogs, cats, kids, etc.
