Mateu came to us from Tennessee in October of 2024. He was confiscated from a hoarding situation with 11 other wolfdogs, all different sizes and ages. He is only 1-2 years old, and when the shelter reached out to us, we hoped he would be the perfect companion to four year old wolfdog, Ginger. Two of our volunteers graciously offered to adjust their road trip to transport Mateu from Tennessee to Florida. Mateu came to us underweight and with worms, but over all he was healthy. For about a month, our animal care staff worked diligently – feeding him every day twice a day, to help him put weight on before meeting his new possible friend. For three weeks, our animal care team conducted introductions between Ginger and Mateu, closely monitoring their behaviors. With three weeks of positive body language between the two animals, our animal care team let Mateu finally run with Ginger in her enclosure! We are hoping that this is a perfect match.
