Almost every day we receive requests to help animals, mostly wolfdogs. In April 2022, we were contacted by Gypsy’s person because she had recently lost her companion fox, and he felt she was suffering from depression. It was his belief that she needs to be with others of her kind for socialization. It didn’t help that he felt the neighbors were targeting the foxes, and might even have escalated against them to harm. This 8-year-old fox is so very sweet that her dad was able to bathe her before bringing her to meet us. She ate the cheeseburger that our Founder, Nancy Smith, offered her as she rode quietly back in Nancy’s lap to the sanctuary.
Gypsy was brought to our veterinarian, who found that she had some skin issues due to fleas, but otherwise she was in good health! Her bloodwork came back perfect, and after flea treatment it was time to introduce her to our two other foxes at the time, Milo and Goerge. The three had a great bond until we laid Milo to rest at 14 years old. Gypsy and George now live with fur farm rescue, Hansel. Gypsy loves to dig and hide her toys, pounce on her bed, and she is enjoying her raw food diet! She loves to dig and hide her toys, pounce on her bed, and she is really enjoying her raw diet!
Disclaimer: We are aware that recent shifts in thought cause the word Gypsy to be considered offensive. This is an eight year old fox that knows her name. We are choosing to keep it for her sake, and ask that everyone understand it is not intended as a slur.
