Silver Tipped Red Fox

This adorable fox is exemplative of the melanistic red fox, a naturally occurring color variation in the Red Fox. This variation was highly desired at one time during the height of the fur industry for coats, stoles, and other popular fashion. We know that you’ll agree with us when we say that their fur looks much better on them than it would on any human! George and his sister Gracie, who is no longer with us, were rescued by a woman in the Florida panhandle who wanted to help them to a better situation, but really wasn’t prepared to raise and keep foxes. She posted her desire to rehome them to social media and, somehow, our volunteers and supporters learned of the pair and their need.

George and Gracie were originally placed in an enclosure with a senior fox named Milo. The three made a great trio, and the younger foxes showed Milo how to play and run again.

Unfortunately, Gracie passed away unexpectedly due to a toxin that she consumed, likely a cane toad. After her passing, George and Milo accepted another female fox named Gypsy. At 14 years of age, we said goodbye to Milo and laid him to rest. Now, George and Gypsy live with their new friend, a fur farm rescue named Hansel. George has shown us throughout his years of living with us that he is willing to accept almost any new fox friend into his home.

George likes to hang back more and observe you first before he gets comfortable with you. Once he trusts you though, he will come up to you and want a lot of scratches under his chin! He will play and will demonstrate the fox “pounce” during play time, but he is a lot more restrained than his buddy Gypsy.
