Akira is a wolfdog that was surrendered to us by her owner in November of 2023, and we were told that she was too difficult to keep as a pet. We were also told that she was on a mostly goat milk diet for her first year of life. When we took Akira to our veterinarian, she was diagnosed with brittle bone disease because of the lack of proper nutrients in her early diet. With a strict new diet instructed by our veterinarian, and several weeks of physical therapy, we were able to help correct her bone disease. Now that Akira is settled into sanctuary life, she is on our normal raw meat diet that we feed all our animals. She has cataracts in both eyes and is blind in her left eye and possibly going blind in the right eye. Right now, she doesn’t seem to feel any pain or discomfort because of this, but we will closely monitor her sweet personality for any changes. She loves to be a ‘lap dog’ and will insert herself in your personal space, and so far, she seems to love everyone that enters her enclosure.
